Birth at the village

The Lebanese men however tough and valiant, apprehended to fall under the influence of the "malefic eye" of jealous people. To repel the bad fate, one always evoked the "name of God" while speaking about a birth in prospect, a happy event, a heavy harvest, etc. According to these beliefs, the pregnant women avoided leaving her house during her pregnancy, because she was scared to meet people with the "evil eye". According to a habit which contributed to seal the union between the villagers, the woman who nursed went to visit the woman who had just delivered and breast fed her newborn who thus became the foster brother of their offspring.
